NBA Game Summary - New York at Utah
Salt Lake City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Derrick Favors had 29 points and 12 rebounds as the Utah Jazz defeated the New York Knicks 87-82 on Tuesday night.
Rodney Hood netted 17 points, while Rudy Gobert added 10 points and 14 boards for the Jazz, who have won six of their last seven games.
Gordon Hayward missed his first game of the season due to a lower back strain.
"He's been playing through some tightness for a while," Utah coach Quin Snyder said.
Alexey Shved posted 21 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists and Andrea Bargnani supplied 20 points for New York, which has dropped five straight and 13 of its last 15 contests.
"The way we came out in the third quarter and fought and went into the fourth quarter with a chance to win, that's the mentality we have to have each night," Knicks coach Derek Fisher said.
The game was tied 73-73 midway through the fourth quarter before the Jazz seized control following an 11-4 run.
Joe Ingles netted the first seven points of the swing, which Hood capped with a runner for an 84-77 advantage with 1:37 left.
Shved cut the margin to 85-82 with 26.6 ticks on the clock. He sunk all three fouls shots after being fouled on a 3-pointer to make it a one-possession game. Trey Burke hit two free throws at the other end and Shved was off the mark on a triple before Favors secured the rebound and the victory.
Earlier, the Jazz led 24-20 following a quarter of play and 43-35 at the break.
Cleanthony Early and Shved nailed treys before Cole Aldrich put in a hook shot to conclude the burst and stake the Knicks to a 57-51 spread late in the third.
Utah responded by scoring 12 of the next 18 points to tie the game at 63-63, and a Shane Larkin jumper knotted the contest at 65-65 heading into the fourth.
