NBA Game Summary - LA Lakers at Golden State
Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Klay Thompson netted 26 points to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 108-105 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night.
Stephen Curry totaled 19 points with nine assists and Draymond Green had 16 points with eight rebounds in the win.
Golden State, which has the Eastern Conference-leading Atlanta Hawks on the horizon, clinched a postseason berth because of Oklahoma City's loss earlier in the night. The Warriors have won two straight and seven of their last eight.
Jordan Clarkson and Wayne Ellington each had 17 in the Lakers third straight loss.
Curry netted seven straight points to help Golden State move ahead 82-74, but the Lakers scored the final four points of the third to close within four entering the fourth.
The Warriors could not shake the pesky Lakers, as Jordan Hill's hook shot with under five minutes to play capped a 6-0 spurt and tied the game at 95-95. Thompson followed with a 3-pointer before Andre Iguodala's slam from Curry gave the hosts a five-point edge. Thompson converted a driving floater at 2:29 to extend the lead to 102-95.
Wesley Johnson and Clarkson each made a tough jumper on consecutive possessions to cut the margin to three, and the Lakers had a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds.
Clarkson was fouled with 6.3 seconds as the Warriors decided not to allow Los Angeles a chance at the tying shot. The rookie nailed both from the line to make it a one-point game, then Curry canned two at the line down the other end.
Golden State chose to foul and put the Lakers at the line on the next possession as the Warriors held off their lowly division rival.
An Ellington 3-pointer gave the Lakers a 22-17 lead with over five minutes left in the first quarter. Thompson's 3-pointer moments later tied the game, and the teams entered the second knotted at 30-apiece.
Los Angeles did not score until nearly three minutes into the second as Golden State pushed its lead to 37-30 following a David Lee layup. Curry's basket with over 4 1/2 minutes to play until halftime made it a 52-43 edge, then the Lakers ripped off nine straight to tie the game. The Warriors held a 58-54 lead at the break.
