Rose scheduled to stand trial in civil sexual assault case
New York Knicks point guard Derrick Rose has had a motion to dismiss a civil sexual assault case denied by a federal judge.
A trial is scheduled for Oct. 4 in Los Angeles stemming from an incident involving a Jane Doe on Aug. 27, 2013.
"There can be no doubt that genuine disputes exist as to almost every material fact in this action," Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald stated, courtesy of ESPN.
The original complaint contends that Rose, 27, and two associates were accused of raping the unnamed victim and breaking into her Beverly Hills home. The plaintiff also accused Rose and his two unnamed friends of lacing her drink with a drug prior to the incident.
Rose, who was traded from the Bulls to the Knicks along with Justin Holiday and a 2017 second-round pick, has maintained his innocence, claiming that he is "very confident" that justice will be served.
With the trial scheduled to begin while Rose and his Knicks teammates are taking part in preseason preparations typically scheduled for October, the 2011 MVP could miss out on a significant stretch ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.
