Report: Cavaliers to give Blatt NBA championship ring

Lest we forget David Blatt coached the Cleveland Cavaliers for the first half of the 2015-16 NBA season, with the team eventually going on to capture the first championship in franchise history under his replacement, Tyronn Lue.

He wasn't around for Cleveland's glorious run to the Larry O'Brien trophy, but the team has ordered a championship ring for their former sideline general, multiple sources confirmed to the Beacon Journal's Jason Lloyd.

Blatt was relieved of his duties Jan. 22 following a 30-11 start, the best record in the Eastern Conference at the time. There was reportedly a level of disconnect between him and the players, which rang especially true for LeBron James, who returned to the organization after Blatt's hiring and as a result didn't have a say in who his coach would be.

While Blatt interviewed for the New York Knicks coaching vacancy, he ultimately found work in Europe as the coach of Darussafaka S.K. in the Turkish Basketball Super League.

During his two seasons with Cleveland, Blatt led the Cavs to a 83-40 record (.675) and a Finals appearance in 2015 against the Golden State Warriors, who took the series in six games.

The current players and coaches will receive their rings in a ceremony held prior to the team's game against the New York Knicks at Quicken Loans Arena on Oct. 25.
