Davidson to honor Curry by renaming student section

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Before Stephen Curry was torching NBA nets, he was an All-American performer at Davidson, and the school announced it will honor the Golden State Warriors guard Jan. 24.

Davidson will rename the student section at Belk Arena "Section 30," honoring the jersey number of the program's all-time leading scorer.

Other than ranking first in program history with 2,635 points, Curry sits first in 3-pointers made at 414. He led the country in scoring in his junior season at 28.6 points per game before leaving early for the NBA draft.

Curry's time at Davidson will best be remembered for his epic run in the 2008 NCAA tournament, when the Wildcats made it all the way to the Elite 8 before falling to Kansas by two points.

The dazzling guard scored 30 or more in each of the first three tournament games, with his high of 40 coming in the opening round against Gonzaga.
