Haslem: Celtics got their 'ass whooped' with and without Ray Allen

During a recent reunion of former members of the 2008 Boston Celtics on Kevin Garnett's "Area 21," the topic of Ray Allen bolting to the enemy Miami Heat was discussed, with those involved revealing how upset they were over how he went about making his way to South Beach.

Heat veteran Udonis Haslem - who's been with the franchise since 2003 - stood up for Allen on Friday and called out the Celtics for their remarks.

"It's not like the year before with Ray they beat us," Haslem said of the Heat defeating Boston in the 2012 Eastern Conference finals on WQAM's The Jose Rose Show. "Put it this way, it wasn't the similar situation to maybe Kevin Durant going to the team that beat him. It was, you got your ass whooped with Ray, and we got Ray and we whupped your ass again."

Miami eliminated the Celtics after overcoming a 3-2 deficit to take the series with a 13-point Game 7 win at American Airlines Arena. That summer, Allen decided to take his talents to the team that had just deprived him of another championship by inking a three-year contract for the mid-level exception.

"I mean, (the former Celtics) got to let that go," Haslem added. "I think when you get to a point where you're a free agent, you have the opportunity to make the best decision for you. Quality of life: Boston, Miami? Ahh, you guys can figure that one out.

"I mean, and I understand, because at that time it was somewhat of a rivalry between us and Boston. But even when they had Ray we beat 'em. So it wasn't like Ray came and helped us get over the edge."

A photo was recently posted on Allen's Facebook page of him in a Heat uniform being defended by Rajon Rondo, with the caption "the power to push limits." His publicist later revealed the page was hacked, and the image was not a direct response from the league's all-time 3-point marksman to the Celtics.
