Report: Knicks' price for Porzingis too high

It didn't take long Tuesday for Kristaps Porzingis trade rumors to be walked back somewhat. While New York Knicks president Phil Jackson may be willing to discuss the prized 21-year-old, the return price is described as "high," according to ESPN's Zach Lowe and The Vertical's Chris Mannix.

The initial report was met with bewilderment among NBA observers - especially Knicks fans - and undoubtedly unleashed a flurry of trade inquiries from around the league to Jackson's front office. Within two hours of the story surfacing, a report indicated the Boston Celtics were interested in Porzingis.

With the Knicks' all-but-stated intention to move Carmelo Anthony this summer, trading Porzingis would generally be viewed as sacrilege among Knicks fans, given that he represents the cornerstone of the franchise's future. Ultimately, while Jackson is within his boundaries to do all due diligence privately, the report was another reflection of his much-maligned performance running the Knicks.
