Embiid, Whiteside take trash talk to social media in epic clash
Joel Embiid and Hassan Whiteside just couldn't leave well enough alone.
After the two traded verbal jabs during the Philadelphia 76ers' 119-105 preseason win over the Miami Heat Friday night, the animosity carried over to social media where they went at each other once again.
Embiid stirred the pot when he was heard uttering "he can't guard me" in the first quarter, referring to Whiteside's defense. Responding to a tweet from one of his followers, Whiteside laughed off the fact that Embiid was talking trash when he only shot 1-of-7 from the field, perhaps proving he could in fact guard the Sixers center after all.
Well, Embiid certainly wasn't going to sit idly by and let Whiteside have the last laugh, coming back at his adversary with a pair of tweets capped off with the hashtag #Softy.
Like the jokester he is, Embiid sarcastically apologized for his Twitter rant, saying he believed he was logged on to a burner account at the time - an obvious reference to when Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant was caught using fake accounts.
Not to be outdone, Whiteside then took a shot at Embiid's injury history and the 31 games he's played over three seasons. With the two teams not meeting again until Feb. 2, 2018, he trolled Embiid by suggesting he may not be healthy enough to compete then.
But wait, there's more.
Embiid later posted an image to his Instagram account, using Whiteside's name as his location, calling it "extremely ass" in his photo caption.
