Report: Mo Bamba refuses workout for Grizzlies, prefers not to be in Memphis
Bad news for those Grizzlies fans hoping to see Mo Bamba get selected with the No. 4 pick in Thursday's NBA draft, as it doesn't appear as though the Texas center is willing to come to Memphis.
During an appearance on ESPN Radio's "Jason and John," draft analyst Jonathan Givony told the hosts Bamba is doing his best to ensure he's not selected by the Grizzlies.
"Mo Bamba has refused to come to workout for Memphis, refused to share his medicals, and has told them openly he would prefer not to be in Memphis," Givony said.
With Bamba playing the same position as All-Star center Marc Gasol, it makes sense from his perspective as to why Memphis wouldn't be a great fit. There may be more to that however, as Givony admits that the uncertainty of the direction the Grizzlies franchise is taking has led to some uneasy thoughts among agents in the league.
"The sense among the agents that I talk to is the Grizzlies are not the most stable organization in the NBA right now. It's unclear who is deciding on the picks or what the roster is going to look like two years from now," Givony said. "The agents are looking around and saying, 'We like Atlanta's situation better, we like Dallas' situation better.'"
With an absolutely astonishing frame and freakish athleticism, Bamba is rising up draft boards as Thursday approaches and could very well end up in the top 3. Should he fall past that number, it doesn't seem likely that Memphis will be his landing spot.
