Monk's thumb isn't fractured, now listed as day-to-day
A closer look at Malik Monk's seemingly fractured thumb showed that his injury isn't as severe as originally reported.
The Charlotte Hornets guard was first diagnosed with a fractured thumb on his right (shooting) hand, which would've sideline him for the next six-to-eight weeks. However, upon further review by Charlotte's physicians, Monk merely suffered a sprain, the team announced Tuesday.
He's now listed as day-to-day.
Monk injured his thumb during Friday's 88-87 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Las Vegas Summer League action. He played 27 minutes that night, finishing with a team-high 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting, with four makes from behind the arc.
The 20-year-old Kentucky product was selected 11th overall by the Hornets in last year's draft, averaging 6.7 points on 36 percent shooting from the field in limited minutes off the bench as a rookie.
