Kings acquire McLemore from Grizzlies for Temple
The Sacramento Kings acquired swingman Ben McLemore, center Deyonta Davis, a 2021 second-round pick, and cash considerations from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Garrett Temple, the team announced Tuesday.
Sacramento now has a league-high $20.5 million in cap space with 14 guaranteed contracts on the books, according to Bobby Marks of ESPN. The Kings have reportedly flirted with giving restricted free agent Marcus Smart an offer sheet, and could now present an offer the Boston Celtics can't match.
McLemore rejoins the Kings after an injury-riddled year in Memphis, in which he averaged 7.5 points across 56 games. Davis presents another option for Sacramento's frontcourt, which already includes Marvin Bagley III, Harry Giles, and Skal Labissiere.
Meanwhile, Memphis frees up a roster spot and adds a quality veteran in Temple as the team tries to return to the playoffs with a healthy Mike Conley alongside Marc Gasol.
A combo guard known for his defensive ability, Temple also knocked down threes at a 39.2 percent clip in 2017-18 while averaging 8.4 points per game as a part-time starter in Sacramento.
