The New York Knicks don't appear bothered by a disgruntled fan's decision to auction off his fanhood.

Evan Perlmutter made headlines last week after putting his Knicks loyalty up for sale on eBay and allowing the highest bidder to choose a new NBA team for him to cheer for. After receiving a winning bid of $3,500, Perlmutter is now a Los Angeles Lakers fan.

In a statement to Bleacher Report's Yaron Weitzman, a Knicks spokesperson dismissed the move as an attention-grabbing tactic.

"We're sure our millions of loyal Knicks fans won't mind losing this attention-grabbing gentleman," the statement reads. "We remain focused on the upcoming season - with a hard-working team that is proud to represent New York and its dedicated fans."

Perlmutter, a 33-year-old former Madison Square Garden ad-sales employee who now works for marketing company One Line Agency, told Weitzman he's received "a ton of hate messages," some accusing him of using the money to line his pockets. But he insists the money will go toward supporting his new team, including purchasing NBA League Pass and traveling to a game in L.A.

"I'm giving a decent amount of it back," Perlmutter said. "It's not like I'm pocketing money."
