KG: Davis to Lakers 'has to happen'

Playing the role of the ghost of basketball future, Minnesota Timberwolves legend Kevin Garnett is warning Anthony Davis that it's time for a change of scenery.

"Anthony Davis playing in New Orleans, I don't want to say they are wasted days, but they are non-days," Garnett told Martin Rogers of USA TODAY Sports. "He needs to be somewhere where he can be with another guy and they can have a run at a championship. He has been in New Orleans long enough. It is time for a change now. This is it. No better time to do this."

Garnett spent the first 12 years of his career in Minnesota, advancing as far as the Western Conference finals just once during his Timberwolves tenure. He later admitted that he wished he'd asked for a trade out of the Twin Cities sooner.

The 15-time All-star believes the New Orleans Pelicans have reached their peak with Davis and that partnering with LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers gives the 25-year-old his best shot at a title.

"Everything is there for Anthony Davis. If he goes to L.A., he can have a six- or seven-year run that would be amazing. This is his time. It has to happen," Garnett said.

Last week, James said it would be "amazing" to play with Davis, which reportedly drew the ire of many small-market general managers.

With Davis joining Klutch Sports' Rich Paul this past September, Garnett is confident that it's just a sign of things to come.

"I definitely get the sense (it is in the works)," Garnett said. "This is the craziest (expletive) I have ever seen. Rich Paul, LeBron’s best (expletive) friend is representing him? Come on, man."
