Report: Rockets, Pelicans pursued Lue as assistant
The Houston Rockets and New Orleans Pelicans are interested in hiring former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue as a lead assistant, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
However, Lue reportedly remains focused on landing a head coaching position after failing to come to terms with the Los Angeles Lakers in early May.
Lue has a history with newly hired Pelicans executive David Griffin - they won an NBA championship with the Cavaliers in 2016 - and head coach Alvin Gentry, as they both were assistants under Doc Rivers with the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Rockets have recently overhauled their staff after falling to the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference semifinals. They reportedly offered Lue a deal to become an assistant under Mike D'Antoni shortly after he was fired by the Cavaliers in October.
The 42-year-old went 128-83 in the regular season and 41-20 in the playoffs during his time as head coach of Cleveland.
