With the No. 13 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, the Miami Heat selected Kentucky guard Tyler Herro.

Herro formed half of one of college basketball's best backcourts last season. The freshman started all 37 games for the Wildcats and averaged 14 points, 4.5 boards, and 2.5 assists per contest. Herro had a team-high 29 double-figure scoring games, including six performances of 20 points or more. The 19-year-old was voted onto the All-SEC second team and SEC All-Freshman team by coaches.

He's a tenacious defender and notably earned praise for his work on Wofford sharpshooter Fletcher Magee during Kentucky's second-round NCAA Tournament win. With Herro blanketing Magee for most of the game, the NCAA's all-time leader in 3-pointers made was scoreless in 12 attempts from downtown. The Wisconsin native has the potential to be a solid two-way player at the next level.

Strengths

  • One of the better shooters in this year's draft class; can easily get into his shooting motion on the move and off the dribble
  • His solid mid-range game complements his outside shooting
  • Runs the pick-and-roll effectively
  • Shows great footwork and balance on his step-back jumpers
  • Hardworking, tough on-ball defender

Weaknesses

  • Doesn't get to the charity stripe (averaged only 2.5 free-throw attempts per game)
  • Lack of explosiveness hurts his ability to finish at the rim
  • His length and less-than-ideal lateral foot speed limits his defensive upside, forcing him to rely on his smarts
