Report: Rivers to return to Rockets on 2-year deal
Free-agent guard Austin Rivers will re-sign with the Houston Rockets on a two-year deal with a player option, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
The first year is for the veteran's minimum of $2.17 million, according to the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen. However, Rivers had offers in the mid-level range of $5.7 million, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon.
"Now that the league is wide open, I just saw an opportunity," Rivers said. "You can't really put a price on happiness. The goal was to come back to Houston all along. I think we have the team to beat."
The 26-year-old has veto power on any trade because of the one-year bird restriction, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.
Rivers arrived in Houston at Christmas after he was traded from the Washington Wizards to the Phoenix Suns and then was subsequently waived. He averaged 8.7 points for the Rockets in 47 games.
The Rockets retained free agents Gerald Green and Danuel House on Sunday.
