Report: Wizards trade Howard to Grizzlies for Miles
The Washington Wizards have traded big man Dwight Howard to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for C.J. Miles, a source told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Memphis saves $3.1 million in the deal. The team plans to waive the eight-time All-Star, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Howard had a less than memorable one-year tenure with the Wizards. His season was cut short after undergoing a lumbar microdiscectomy in November. Howard averaged 12.8 points and 9.2 boards per contest across nine appearances this past campaign.
The three-time Defensive Player of the Year had exercised his $5.6-million player option for the 2019-20 season.
Miles was acquired midseason from the Toronto Raptors in the blockbuster deal for Grizzlies icon Marc Gasol. After a slow start to the season, the veteran sharpshooter finished strong, averaging 9.3 points on 40 percent shooting across 13 appearances with Memphis.
The Grizzlies also waived shooting guard Avery Bradley, a source told The Athletic's David Aldridge. He was already guaranteed $2 million from Memphis and would've been owed his full $12.9-million salary for next season if he wasn't waived on or before Monday, according to Spotrac.
The extra financial flexibility puts the club in a better position to match the anticipated offer sheet from the Dallas Mavericks for restricted free agent Delon Wright.
