Melo named conference Player of the Week for 1st time in 5 years

Portland Trail Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony was named Western Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

The last time the 35-year-old earned Player of the Week honors was in March 2014 while suiting up for the New York Knicks.

Anthony averaged 22.3 points, 7.7 boards, and 2.7 assists as the Blazers posted a 3-0 record last week.

It was an eventful week for the 10-time All-Star, who surpassed Alex English for 18th on the NBA's all-time scoring list and posted his highest field-goal percentage (81.8%) in a single game with at least two shot attempts.

Anthony also notched a pair of 20-point games to bring his career total to 755, moving him past Hall of Fame guard Oscar Robertson for 10th in league history.

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo was the Eastern Conference's recipient of the award. He averaged 34.8 points, 11.3 boards, four assists, and 1.5 blocks across four appearances.
