Ja's near-epic dunk has Love counting his blessings
Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant has taken the league by storm during his rookie season, electrifying crowds with his playmaking and jaw-dropping athleticism.
The No. 2 overall pick from this year's draft nearly added another clip to his NBA highlight reel when he skied over Cleveland Cavaliers star Kevin Love - a la Vince Carter on Frederic Weis - during a dunk attempt midway through the first quarter of Friday's contest.
Despite the missed dunk, Morant's latest athletic feat left many in awe, including Love, who was counting his blessings after avoiding the poster jam.
"Ja almost ended my professional career with this dunk ... that kid is something special," Love tweeted postgame.
Love joked postgame about an incentive the team used to have for taking charges.
"In the past, we had done $100 a charge. ... That $100 isn't worth it at this point," Love told reporters.
Morant finished with eight points, five boards, and a career-high-tying 11 assists. He was one dime short of the Grizzlies' rookie record set by Mike Bibby, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
However, it was the Cavs who got the last laugh, as they rallied from behind in the fourth quarter for a 114-107 victory.
