Report: 76ers show interest in Iguodala, Covington, other wings
With the NBA trade deadline less than a month away, the Philadelphia 76ers are gauging upgrades to their wing rotation, The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor reports.
The team has reportedly expressed interest in several potential trade targets including a pair of notable former Sixers in Andre Iguodala and Robert Covington, the Denver Nuggets' Malik Beasley, the Golden State Warriors' Glenn Robinson III, the Washington Wizards' Davis Bertans, and the New Orleans Pelicans' E'Twaun Moore.
Philadelphia would reportedly be most inclined to include second-year pro Zhaire Smith in a potential deal ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline. The team is hesitant to part with rookie Matisse Thybulle, O'Connor adds.
Iguodala, who played eight seasons in Philadelphia after being drafted ninth overall in 2004, is currently a member of the rebuilding Memphis Grizzlies. However, he's been away from the organization and has yet to appear in a game this season while awaiting a potential trade or buyout.
The soon-to-be 36-year-old averaged 7.3 points per game on 34.2% 3-point shooting as an indispensable member of the Warriors' dynasty starting with the 2013-14 season. Iguodala's tenacious presence off the bench played a pivotal in the team's 2015 title run, culminating with Finals MVP honors.
Covington was perhaps the best unheralded find of the 76ers' "Process" rebuild. His steady development in four-and-a-quarter seasons with Philadelphia resulted in him being a central component of a trade package that brought All-Star wing Jimmy Butler from the Minnesota Timberwolves in November 2018.
The 29-year-old has averaged 12.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.8 steals while shooting 35.8% on threes in 57 games with Minnesota.
