Report: Grizzlies plan to buy out or release Waiters
Dion Waiters' stay with the Memphis Grizzlies appears to be a short one.
Shortly after his reported acquisition from the Miami Heat, the Grizzlies plan to buy out or release the veteran guard, league sources told Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes.
Waiters has appeared in just three games this season, averaging 9.3 points and 3.7 boards. Miami has already suspended him on three different occasions during the 2019-20 campaign due to his conduct.
The Syracuse product spent parts of four seasons in South Beach, recording 13.9 points and 3.6 assists per game. However, Waiters' behavior combined with the emergence of rookies Tyler Herro and Kendrick Nunn have cost him his starting spot.
The former fourth overall pick is currently in the third season of a four-year, $52-million contract signed ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.
Memphis is 26-25 and holds a three-game lead on the Portland Trail Blazers for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
