G League suspends Herd's Buford 2 games after postgame rant

The G League has suspended Wisconsin Herd head coach Chase Buford for two games "for a direct and extended public attack on the integrity and credibility of the game officials," according to ESPN.

Buford, the bench boss for the Milwaukee Bucks' G League affiliate, criticized the referees following the Herd's 126-117 loss to the Grand Rapids Drive on Sunday.

The first-year head coach called one referee a "clown" and described the officiating crew as "biased and illegal" during an epic postgame rant.

Buford's postgame comments quickly went viral and he later apologized for his actions.

"I deeply apologize for my behavior following our game against Grand Rapids today," Buford said in a statement. "It was unprofessional and I'm embarrassed.

"My sincere apologies to referee Matt Rafferty, the Grand Rapids Drive, their fans and the Herd organization. It's a tough learning experience as a first-year head coach and I am truly sorry, and will grow from this.

Wisconsin has a league-best 28-9 record during Buford's first season behind the bench. He's the son of longtime San Antonio Spurs executive and current CEO R.C. Buford.
