Cavs, Bickerstaff agree to multi-year contract
J.B. Bickerstaff will be sticking around as Cleveland Cavaliers head coach for the long term.
Cleveland agreed to a multi-year contract with Bickerstaff on Tuesday, the team announced. It's a four-year extension through the 2023-24 season, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
The move comes as something of a birthday present for Bickerstaff, who turned 41 on Tuesday. He took the reins following John Beilein's departure on Feb. 19 and has coached the Cavs to a 5-5 record.
Bickerstaff has had two previous stints as a head coach with the Memphis Grizzlies and Houston Rockets, but he's only once overseen a team for a full NBA season (Memphis in 2018-19). He's the son of former longtime NBA bench boss Bernie Bickerstaff, who coached five teams between 1985 and 2012.
