Allen still on rocky terms with KG, received death threats from C's fans
Ray Allen has a lot of love for Kevin Garnett, but he doesn't know if he'll be in attendance for his ex-teammate's Hall of Fame induction or jersey retirement ceremony with the Boston Celtics.
"It would take Kevin and I to have a conversation moving forward," Allen said Tuesday on "The Cedric Maxwell Podcast."
Nearly eight years after Allen's free-agent departure, his decision to join the Miami Heat remains a sore spot for his former Big 3 co-stars - Garnett and Paul Pierce - as well as the Celtics' fan base.
"I've gotten so much hate, death threats, vitriol from Boston fans," Allen said. "These guys have kind of removed me from the Big 3, said so many negative things about me. And I haven't had one negative thing to say about any of them."
In February, longtime Celtics executive Danny Ainge said he and Allen were on good terms. Meanwhile, ex-bench boss Doc Rivers has tried to squash the ongoing beef between the Big 3.
However, in 2018, former Celtics floor general Rajon Rondo was setting up a reunion to commemorate the team's 10-year championship anniversary, but a couple of teammates were against the idea to invite Allen.
"We're supposed to be celebrating these times, having won in 2008," Allen said. "We're supposed to be talking about the great times. But instead, they want to be mad at me because I left and went to Miami."
Across five seasons with the Celtics, Allen averaged 16.7 points per game and shot 40.9% from distance. The UConn product is the NBA's all-time leader with 2,973 made 3-pointers.
