Report: NBA placing restrictions on injury, positive test replacements

No limits are expected on the number of players an NBA team can sign to replace those lost to a positive COVID-19 test or a serious injury, but there will be restrictions on which players are eligible to be added, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Bobby Marks.

Replacement players are likely to be limited to those who have inked an NBA, G-League, or training camp contract this season, Wojnarowski and Marks report.

Under such rules, veteran free agents - like Jamal Crawford - and international players are ineligible to join any of the 22 teams at the Walt Disney World site in Orlando.

The NBA has also reportedly discussed with teams the possibility of making any player replaced due to COVID-19 or injury ineligible for the remainder of the 2019-20 campaign.

During Friday's NBPA call, the players' association reportedly informed its members they'll be quarantined a minimum of seven days if they test positive for the coronavirus.

Teams also hope the league will reconsider its preference to not allow players under two-way contracts to join their NBA clubs, sources told Wojnarowski and Marks.
