Kerr expects stars to attend NFL-like OTAs before next season

The Golden State Warriors' campaign officially ended when the NBA and NBPA approved the 22-team return-to-play format last week.

With the Association targeting a December start for the 2020-21 season, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr hopes to have NFL-like organized team activities beforehand, and he expects full participation from stars Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.

"I would not consider this voluntary workouts," Kerr told reporters Tuesday, including The Athletic's Anthony Slater. "Obviously, these are really unique circumstances. But given that we would be staring at a nine-month break, to be perfectly honest, I would be shocked if any one of those three guys said to me, 'No, I don't want the work.'

"They all know they need the work and we all need the work. So, they'll be there."

The other seven eliminated teams have reportedly proposed a number of ideas to help younger players develop, including regional minicamps in August that could feature joint practices between teams.

However, that could prove difficult with Golden State so far geographically from those other clubs.

"We're not interested in a summer league," Kerr said. "We would be maybe if there's a more formal version of it after the draft, sort of like the normal summer league where we could partner with a few teams nearby and have a few games with our young players and rookies."
