Lakers to wear 'Black Mamba' jerseys Aug. 24
The Los Angeles Lakers are set to wear their "Black Mamba" uniforms Aug. 24 - also known as "Kobe Bryant Day" - according to the NBA's Lockervision website.
The Lakers are scheduled to play the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 4 of their Western Conference first-round series Aug. 24. It was first reported over the weekend that the Lakers would wear the "Black Mamba" jerseys if they advance to the second round. The design features a black background with the team's purple-and-gold trim and a snakeskin print.
Aug. 24 - or 8/24 - also coincides with Nike's release of a new "Black Mamba" jersey. The Lakers first wore a Kobe-inspired "City Edition" uniform - which was designed in collaboration with Bryant - on Jan. 26, 2018, two years to the day before his death.
On Tuesday, Bryant's widow, Vanessa, posted pictures of the jerseys on Instagram. One of them had a white patch featuring their late daughter Gianna's No. 2.
Bryant would have turned 42 on Sunday.
