Report: 76ers expected to part ways with Brown
The Philadelphia 76ers are expected to part ways with head coach Brett Brown, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Sixers assistant Ime Udoka, ex-Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue, Villanova head coach Jay Wright, and former Memphis Grizzlies and Sacramento Kings head coach Dave Joerger are reportedly among the potential candidates to replace Brown.
Brown posted a 221-344 record across seven seasons as the Sixers' bench boss. He guided the club back to the playoffs in 2017 after the infamous days of "The Process."
However, Philadelphia's failed to advance past the second round in the past three postseasons, and Brown drew criticism for his inability to maximize the skill sets of star tandem Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.
Brown didn't receive much of an endorsement after Sunday's season-ending loss to the Boston Celtics.
Guard Josh Richardson said Brown failed to take ownership of his mistakes, which contributed to another early playoff exit.
"He's a good guy. He's a good man. He means well," Richardson said, according to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. "I just think, going forward, he's gotta have some more accountability. I don't think there was much accountability this season, and I think that was part of our problem."
Meanwhile, Sixers general manager Elton Brand, whose team option for 2020-21 was recently exercised, appears to be safe and has a healthy relationship with team ownership, sources told Charania.
