3 potential landing spots for Jrue Holiday
Jrue Holiday's stay in the Big Easy could be nearing an end.
The New Orleans Pelicans are reportedly shopping the All-Star guard and have received interest from several contenders.
With this offseason's free-agent class lacking star power, teams may look to the trade market for upgrades.
Here are three teams that could take a run at Holiday:
Denver Nuggets

Proposed trade
| Nuggets receive | Pelicans receive |
|---|---|
| Jrue Holiday | Gary Harris |
| Bol Bol | |
| 2020 first-round pick |
Denver is hoping to build off last season's run to the Western Conference final, but it's clear that the club is at least one piece away from legitimately challenging for an NBA title. With Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray locked in long term, the Nuggets would be wise to maximize their window.
While Michael Porter may very well become the third star that Denver needs, that shouldn't stop the team from going after a big target. Holiday would give the Nuggets' high-powered offense another legitimate scorer. He can play off the ball alongside Murray and take over playmaking duties when he sits.
Starting guard Gary Harris has struggled to replicate his offensive form from 2017-18, though he continues to play at a high level on the defensive end. The Michigan State product would be a logical target for new Pelicans head coach Stan Van Gundy, who has historically taken a defense-first approach.
Forward Bol Bol tumbled down the 2019 draft due to injury concerns. During the seeding games in Orlando, however, he flashed the unique skill set that earned him top-10 consideration in college. He could be the piece that ultimately entices New Orleans to make a deal.
Brooklyn Nets

Proposed trade
| Nets receive | Pelicans receive |
|---|---|
| Jrue Holiday | Caris LeVert |
| Jarrett Allen | |
| Rodions Kurucs |
Like the Nuggets, Brooklyn is looking to add another significant piece, and Holiday might be the perfect fit alongside the ball-dominant Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. The 11-year veteran is arguably most effective when ceding primary playmaking duties.
Holiday thrives when given the freedom to roam off the ball, and it's no coincidence that his three best scoring seasons have come when he's played at the two-spot. His addition to the Nets' backcourt would also help mitigate Irving's defensive shortcomings.
Most importantly, Holiday is unlikely to shake the balance of the locker room, as his peers voted him the 2019-20 Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year. Durant and Irving were at the center of some internal issues at their previous stops, and that's the last thing that Brooklyn needs.
As for the Pelicans' return, Caris LeVert is another building block and is locked in through 2022-23. The forward averaged a career-high 18.7 points last season and performed admirably in the bubble on a shorthanded Nets squad. Meanwhile, Jarrett Allen is a young starting-caliber center who's already a proven rim-protector and can run the floor in New Orleans' up-tempo offense.
Miami Heat

Proposed trade
| Heat receive | Pelicans receive |
|---|---|
| Jrue Holiday | Duncan Robinson |
| Kelly Olynyk | |
| Kendrick Nunn | |
| 2020 first-round pick |
Miami proved to be a lot closer to a championship than many thought heading into the 2019-20 campaign. The Heat pushed the Los Angeles Lakers to six games in the NBA Finals and may take a swing if they feel Holiday is the guy who can push them over the top.
The 30-year-old could be an option if Goran Dragic isn't re-signed in free agency. Holiday would assume the starting point guard role in such a scenario but wouldn't be burdened with primary facilitating duties, as Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo also serve as playmaking threats.
Holiday's ability to guard multiple positions would give Miami another switchable defender. Tyler Herro's standout rookie campaign may keep him off the table, but New Orleans could still extract some young talent from the Heat.
Duncan Robinson has developed into an elite catch-and-shoot threat just two years into his NBA career and would provide some floor-spacing around Zion Williamson. Center Kelly Olynyk is another outside threat but would need to exercise his $12.2-million player option to be included in a deal.
Lastly, Kendrick Nunn would offer New Orleans a scoring guard next to Lonzo Ball. Nunn lost his spot in the rotation as he struggled throughout the restart, but he enjoyed a strong first half of the season and finished runner-up in Rookie of the Year voting.
