Veteran sharpshooter JJ Redick believes it's no coincidence that the Philadelphia 76ers struggled this past season after parting ways with him last summer.
"They f----- up not bringing me back, man," Redick said Friday on Showtime's "All the Smoke" podcast with Matt Barnes.
Redick added, "They probably (eventually) realized they needed a little more shooting. The thing with me in Philly, though, it wasn't just about the shooting. ... You need people in the locker room. You just need those guys."
Redick didn't miss a beat in his first season with the New Orleans Pelicans. The 36-year-old averaged 15.3 points and finished second in the Association with a 45.3% clip from distance.
Meanwhile, 3-point shooting wasn't a strong suit for Philadelphia as it finished 19th in the NBA with 11.6 triples per contest. The 76ers' struggles from distance contributed to a turbulent 2019-20 campaign that ended with a first-round sweep at the hands of the Boston Celtics.
Redick was touted for his leadership during his Philadelphia tenure and has maintained a solid relationship with several former teammates, including Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. The 13-year guard wishes success for both players but believes the club's constant roster turnover isn't helping their title hopes.
"I've said this before, but the one consistent in Philly has been personnel in-and-out," Redick said. "They just have a ton of players that come through there. And so I think - Joel talked about this on my podcast - for him, he's played with, I don't even f------ know at this point, hundreds of teammates. It's just a rotating cast."
