Curry 'absolutely' wants single-game 3-point record back from Klay
Steph Curry's sparkling play continued on Wednesday as the Golden State Warriors sharpshooter posted 42 points during a 147-109 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Curry is enjoying a stellar week after surpassing Wilt Chamberlain for the most points in Warriors history on Monday. Still, other records have eluded him.
"Absolutely," Curry told ESPN's Nick Friedell when asked postgame Wednesday if he wants to retake the NBA single-game 3-point record from teammate Klay Thompson.
Thompson, who's out for the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon, set the mark with 14 treys in October 2018. He took the record from Curry, who posted 13 triples in November 2016.
Thompson also holds the record for the most points in a quarter after dropping 37 during a third quarter in January 2015. After Curry scored 25 in the third quarter against the Thunder, the two-time MVP could only marvel at his teammate's accomplishment.
"I was kind of joking with some of the guys tonight because I remember Chicago, and he did it in three quarters," Curry said about Thompson's record showing against the Bulls in 2015.
"His 37-point quarter was even crazier, because I had 25 tonight and it just seemed like I was invincible out there; this dude had 12 more points in the same amount of time, so that was crazy in and of itself," Curry added. "And then the 14 threes. I had 11; I felt like I couldn't miss. I think it's gettable, but we'll see."
Curry's recent performances certainly suggest as much.
He's totaled 10-plus 3-pointers in two straight outings while also recording eight consecutive games with 30-plus points, the longest such streak during his illustrious career. Wednesday's production against the Thunder was also the 25th time this season Curry has scored 30-plus points.
Over seven games in April, Curry is averaging 39.5 points, seven rebounds, and 3.8 assists. He's also shooting 46.2% from deep.
"(It's) arguably the best I've felt physically and in rhythm, shooting the ball, just seeing the game, so trying to make it last as long as I can," Curry said.
