Report: Aldridge cleared to play, Nets front-runners
The Brooklyn Nets are the front-runners to sign LaMarcus Aldridge after the veteran big man was cleared to play, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
The seven-time All-Star unexpectedly retired last April after experiencing an irregular heartbeat during a contest. However, Aldridge received full medical clearance to resume his NBA career, adds Charania.
Aldridge said in June that he'd been experiencing depression since walking away from the game. He made only five appearances for the Nets after the San Antonio Spurs bought him out.
The five-time All-NBA selection averaged 13.5 points and 4.5 boards over 26 appearances in 2020-21. He shot 47.3% from the field and 38.8% from deep.
A reunion in Brooklyn could see Aldridge challenge Blake Griffin for a spot in the starting five.
The Nets added some additional frontcourt depth earlier Thursday, agreeing to a deal with forward Paul Millsap.
