Report: NBA seeing renewed traction on future in-season tournament

There's renewed traction between the NBA and players' union on a future in-season tournament, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The two sides are reportedly speaking about a structure that includes December pool play, a pre-Christmas quarterfinal, semifinal, and final round, and a $1-million payout for each player on the winning team, Wojnarowski adds.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver has openly spoken in the past about his desire to implement an in-season tournament similar to European soccer leagues. The Association apparently brought the concept up during its Competition Committee call in September.

The WNBA held its inaugural Commissioner's Cup competition during the 2021 campaign. Each player on the winning team earned approximately $30,000, while those on the losing team's side each received $10,000. The MVP also took home an additional $5,000.
