Kerr: Warriors 'lack collective grit' amid winless start on road
Stephen Curry's 11th career 50-point game wasn't enough to snap the Golden State Warriors' eight-game road skid as they fell 130-119 to the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr took some responsibility for the team's struggles away from home, saying he has "failed" to bring the club together. He also criticized his players' level of play after another lackluster performance.
"We lack collective grit. We're playing a Drew League game right now," Kerr told reporters postgame, according to ESPN's Kendra Andrews.
"I've always felt the game rewards you if you commit to the game. If you really compete together, shots go in, calls go your way, breaks fall your way, and we're not earning any of this stuff. That's why we are winless on the road. It's a pickup game."
Golden State's 0-8 mark away from Chase Center is the longest road losing streak by a defending champion since the 1998-99 Chicago Bulls, per ESPN Stats & Info. The Warriors have surrendered a league-worst 124.3 points on 49.1% shooting - including a 42.1% mark from deep - in those contests.
The club ranked second in defensive efficiency last season but sits 27th through the first 15 games of the 2022-23 campaign.
"It's a struggle right now, keeping it real," Curry said. "We have to understand that it's going to be really hard to dig yourself out of the situation that we're in because there are a lot of issues."
