Jazz's Beasley: Gobert's late basket was 'disrespectful'

Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert received a standing ovation in his return to Utah on Friday, but his late basket didn't sit well with the Jazz and their fans.

Utah guard Malik Beasley had some choice words for the three-time Defensive Player of the Year after Gobert's layup pushed the T-Wolves' lead to 10 with 2.4 seconds remaining.

"Just disrespectful. It's one of the unwritten rules of basketball. I told him that," Beasley told reporters postgame, according to Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune.

Minnesota bench boss Chris Finch defended Gobert's decision to score as the Jazz continued to apply ball pressure on his players with the game out of reach.

"Don't press us. If you're gonna press us late, we're gonna lay it in," Finch said, per The Salt Lake Tribune's Eric Walden.

Gobert said he didn't regret his final basket and clarified that there was no ulterior motive behind his actions.

"I've been taught to play basketball until the last second," he said, according to Walden. "For me, there was never any intent to disrespect anybody."

Gobert finished with 22 points, 13 boards, and one assist as the T-Wolves prevailed 118-108 over the Jazz. The two teams have split their two meetings this season and meet again on Jan. 16 in Minnesota.
