The Indiana Pacers signed head coach Rick Carlisle to a contract extension, the team announced Thursday.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but it's reportedly a multi-year extension, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

"It goes without saying that coach Carlisle is one of the most creative and successful coaches in the history of the league, so there was never a question that he continues to be the right person to lead our team," Indiana's president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard said in a statement.

Carlisle has been the Pacers' coach since 2021 and is just three wins shy of 900 career victories. It's his second stint in Indiana after he spent four seasons on the Pacers' sideline from 2003 to the end of the 2006-07 campaign.

Though the longtime coach enjoyed consistent postseason action during his first stint with the team - earning playoff appearances in three of his four years - his return run hasn't been as successful. The Pacers own a combined 60-104 record over the past two seasons and haven't made the playoffs.

Carlisle spent 13 campaigns as the Dallas Mavericks coach in between his Pacers stints, winning one NBA championship.

Indiana kicked off the 2023-2024 campaign with a 143-120 win over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday.
