Top performers

Tyrese Haliburton (Pacers): The Philadelphia 76ers' eight-game win streak came to a halt following a massive 33-point, 15-assist, six-rebound, two-steal performance from Haliburton. The All-Star guard also became just the fifth player in NBA history to record at least 30 points and 15 assists without committing a turnover, according to The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Thunder): In the first highly anticipated clash between rookie phenoms Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren, it was Gilgeous-Alexander who stole the show. The Canadian had another strong all-around game, posting 28 points, six boards, and five assists to go along with a career-high seven steals.

Nikola Jokic (Nuggets): Denver remained undefeated at home thanks to a vintage performance from the reigning Finals MVP. Jokic finished just short of another triple-double, tallying 32 points, 16 boards, and nine assists as the Nuggets held off a feisty effort from the Los Angeles Clippers. The Denver big man has led the team in scoring in each game this season.

Highlight of the night

Ausar Thompson had a career-high 21 points in the Detroit Pistons' loss to the Atlanta Hawks. The rookie's night was highlighted by a vicious one-handed poster slam on veteran big man Clint Capela.

Wembanyama and Holmgren have mesmerized the basketball world with their guard-like skills as 7-footers. While neither had the finest performance Tuesday evening, the two players left fans in awe once again when they competed to win the opening tip.

Stat of the night

Outside of Stephen Curry, only two Golden State Warriors players have registered at least 20 points in a game this season, per Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic. Rookie guard Brandin Podziemski joined Dario Saric in the exclusive club with a surprising 23-point game off the bench in Tuesday's 104-101 defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The standings are beginning to take shape with group play nearing its halfway point. Friday's 11-game slate includes the red-hot Houston Rockets heading to Hollywood for a date with the struggling Clippers.
