The Washington Wizards traded center Daniel Gafford to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for veteran big man Richaun Holmes and a 2024 first-round pick, the teams announced Thursday.

The 2024 first-round pick comes via the Oklahoma City Thunder, who are swapping 2028 first-rounders with the Mavericks.

Gafford bolsters the Mavericks' interior. He could start ahead of rookie Dereck Lively. The former Arkansas Razorback's 2.2 blocks per game is the seventh-best mark in the league. The 25-year-old is also averaging a career-high 10.9 points and eight rebounds through 45 contests.

Holmes has only appeared in 23 games this campaign, averaging 3.4 points and 3.4 rebounds.

The Wizards sit 15th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 9-41, while the Mavericks are 28-23.
