New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III is out at least three weeks after an MRI revealed a right hamstring strain, the team announced Thursday.
Under that timeline, the Virginia product would miss the entire preseason and the Pelicans' opening-night matchup versus the Chicago Bulls.
Murphy sustained the injury during Wednesday evening's team practice.
The 6-foot-8 sharpshooter averaged a career-high 14.8 points, 4.9 boards, and 2.2 assists across 57 appearances last season. He was sixth in free-throw percentage (90.5%) and 15th in effective field-goal percentage (61%) during the 2022-23 campaign.
Murphy is set to become a restricted free agent next summer. However, the Pelicans have until Oct. 21 to offer him a rookie-scale extension.
