Knicks' Achiuwa sidelined at least 2 weeks with hamstring strain
New York Knicks forward Precious Achiuwa will miss the start of the 2024-25 regular season due to a strained left hamstring, the team announced Sunday.
Achiuwa will be re-evaluated in two-to-four weeks, the Knicks added.
Achiuwa's absence leaves coach Tom Thibodeau with limited frontcourt options as New York chases its first NBA title since 1973.
Center Mitchell Robinson is expected to be out until January following left-foot surgery. Robinson initially underwent surgery following an ankle fracture in December 2023 and missed 50 games before re-injuring himself in the playoffs, prompting a second procedure.
Thibodeau and Co. will also look to quickly integrate All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns, who the Knicks acquired in the summer as part of a blockbuster deal that sent Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo the other way. New York also lost center Isaiah Hartenstein to free agency this summer.
Achiuwa, 25, averaged 7.6 points and 7.2 rebounds in 49 regular-season outings for the Knicks last season following a trade from the Toronto Raptors in December.
The Knicks kick off the regular season on Oct. 22 when they travel to Beantown to face the reigning NBA champions, the Boston Celtics.
