Drake: I'd pull down DeRozan's banner if Raptors retired his jersey
Grammy Award-winning rapper Drake isn't a fan of the idea that DeMar DeRozan's jersey will eventually join Vince Carter's in the rafters of Scotiabank Arena.
"If you ever put up a DeRozan banner, I'll go up there and pull it down myself," Drake said during Saturday's television broadcast of the game between the Toronto Raptors and Sacramento Kings, courtesy of Sportscenter.
Drake serves as the Raptors' global ambassador. He struck up a relationship with DeRozan during the All-Star guard's nine seasons in Toronto.
However, things soured after DeRozan made a cameo appearance in Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us" video for the diss track aimed at the Toronto-born rapper.
DeRozan had a simple message for Drake when informed about the latter's remarks.
"He's gonna have a long way to climb to take it down. So tell him good luck," DeRozan told reporters postgame.
DeRozan earned four All-Star nods and two All-NBA selections during his Raptors tenure. The USC product is the franchise's all-time leader in points, games played, and free throws. He led Toronto to five consecutive playoff appearances, including the club's maiden East finals.
