Spurs' Vassell makes season debut vs. Jazz
Devin Vassell made his season debut off the bench Saturday during the San Antonio Spurs' 111-110 loss to the Utah Jazz.
Vassell checked in at the 5:35 mark of the first quarter. He finished the game with 21 points, two assists, and a rebound in 22 minutes.
The 24-year-old had yet to play this campaign as he recovered from offseason foot surgery. Vassell made his last appearance March 29 of last season.
The Florida State product will provide San Antonio more wing depth after forward Jeremy Sochan was sidelined indefinitely following surgery to repair a fractured thumb.
Vassell averaged career highs in points (19.5), assists (4.1), and field-goal percentage (47.2%) in 68 games last season. The former lottery pick inked a five-year, $146-million extension with the Spurs last October.
The Spurs have been playing without legendary head coach Gregg Popovich since Nov. 2 as he recovers from an unspecified health issue.
San Antonio fell to 4-7 with the defeat.
