Kawhi Leonard is targeting to return Jan. 4 when the Los Angeles Clippers host the Atlanta Hawks, sources told The Athletic's Law Murray.

Leonard has yet to suit up this season due to lingering inflammation in his right knee. Sports footwear and apparel brand New Balance appeared to tease his return in an ad released Friday.

The two-time Finals MVP attended Team USA's Olympic training camp last summer. However, USA Basketball and the Clippers agreed to keep Leonard out of the Games in Paris.

Leonard reportedly underwent a knee procedure over the offseason. Los Angeles held him out of certain training camp activities before ruling him out indefinitely.

Leonard averaged 23.7 points, 6.1 boards, 3.6 assists, and 1.6 steals across 68 appearances last season.

The Clippers posted a 17-13 mark without their marquee player, good for seventh in the West entering Friday's play.
