Report: Grizzlies send Smart, 1st-round pick to Wizards in 3-team deal
The Memphis Grizzlies are trading Marcus Smart and a 2025 first-round pick to the Washington Wizards in a multi-team trade with the Sacramento Kings that sends two second-round picks to the Grizzlies, sources tell ESPN's Shams Charania.
The Wizards are moving big man Marvin Bagley III and guard Johnny Davis to the Grizzlies in the trade as well, Charania adds.
Memphis is also trading forward Jake LaRavia to the Kings, sources told NBA insider Chris Haynes. Sacramento will send guard Colby Jones and center Alex Len to the Wizards, reports NBA insider Marc Stein, citing sources.
Smart, the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year, averaged 11.6 points, four assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.6 steals in 39 games with the franchise. He only played in 20 contests last season due to ankle and finger injuries.
The 30-year-old has one more year left on his deal at $21.6 million and is slated to become a free agent in 2026.
The Grizzlies gain financial flexibility to renegotiate Jaren Jackson Jr.'s contract, notes ESPN's Bobby Marks. Jackson is slated to enter free agency in 2026 after signing a four-year, $104.7-million rookie extension in 2021.
