Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has been suspended one game without pay after picking up his 16th technical foul of the season Thursday against the Los Angeles Lakers, the league announced Friday.

NBA rules state that a player or coach is automatically banned for one contest once they accumulate 16 technical fouls in a season. They'll be assessed another one-game suspension for every two additional fouls between now and the end of the regular season.

Edwards was given his first technical foul during Thursday's game after shoving Lakers big man Jarred Vanderbilt at the end of the opening quarter.

The three-time All-Star received his second technical foul midway through the third quarter for directing profanity toward an official.

Edwards seemed to take issue with a non-call after an unsuccessful driving attempt.

"He's got to be better. He's had too many outbursts. I think a lot of them are deserved," T-Wolves head coach Chris Finch told reporters postgame. "They're going to miss some calls from time to time for sure. We've been talking to him about it. It's on him."

Edwards will miss Friday's contest against the Utah Jazz. The team is already without Julius Randle, Rudy Gobert, and Donte DiVincenzo.
