The Philadelphia 76ers have ruled out Joel Embiid for the rest of the season so the former MVP can focus on rehabilitating his lingering left knee injury, the club announced Friday.

The Sixers said Embiid and the club are working with specialists to determine his treatment plan.

Embiid recently said he'd likely need another knee surgery to recover fully from his issue.

The seven-time All-Star has been dealing with knee swelling throughout the season, and treatments, including injections, haven't improved his condition.

Embiid underwent surgery on his left knee last February to repair a torn meniscus. He managed to compete in the Olympics with Team USA but missed the entire NBA preseason.

He appeared in 19 games this campaign, averaging 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.

Embiid isn't the only Sixer to be ruled out for the rest of the season. Rookie guard Jared McCain has been out with a knee injury since December after undergoing a procedure to fix a torn meniscus, and veteran guard Eric Gordon is expected to miss the remainder of the year after having arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist.

The 20-38 Sixers are riding a nine-game losing streak and sit 12th in the East.

Philadelphia owes the Oklahoma City Thunder a 2025 top-six protected first-round pick. If the draft pick isn't conveyed this season, it'll become a top-four protected pick in 2026.
