Spurs' Champagnie, Thunder's Dort, Williams ejected after scuffle
San Antonio Spurs wing Julian Champagnie and Oklahoma City Thunder guards Lu Dort and Kenrich Williams were ejected late in the third quarter of Sunday's contest following a fracas between the teams.
The incident erupted after Champagnie swung his elbow near Williams' face while attempting a pass, prompting the two players to go face-to-face.
Both clubs quickly started a scuffle near midcourt following the confrontation, with Dort and Spurs wing Jeremy Sochan grabbing each other's jerseys in the center of the action.
"I went for a dunk, and then all I see is just everyone going to one spot," Sochan said postgame, per ESPN's Michael C. Wright. "So, like I had to go to the same spot. It was a little scuffle. I think it was pretty playful. It wasn't anything too serious."
Referees issued Dort a technical foul with his ejection. Sochan also received a technical but stayed in the game.
Thunder coach Mark Daigneault explained after the match that Dort was ejected for something he said during the altercation, which is why Sochan was not also tossed.
"I got the explanation from (referee) James Williams," Daigneault said. "If James Williams wants to eject him for that, I think that's justified. ... The issue I have with that is I've heard with my own ears in the last two weeks other players say similar things or worse things to officials with no response."
He added: "If there's zero tolerance for Lu Dort, there should be zero tolerance for everybody. They've got to figure that out."
The Thunder won 146-132 and improved to 49-11 thanks to Jalen Williams' career-high 41 points.
