Pistons' Stewart among 5 players suspended after T-Wolves' scuffle
The NBA has suspended five players for their roles in an on-court altercation during Sunday's matchup between the Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves, the league announced Tuesday.
Pistons big man Isaiah Stewart was issued a two-game ban, while teammates Ron Holland and Marcus Sasser will serve a one-game suspension. Naz Reid and Donte DiVincenzo of the Minnesota Timberwolves were also given a one-game ban from the league.
The NBA gave Stewart an extra game partly because of his "repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts."
Stewart, Holland, and Sasser will miss Wednesday's road contest against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Reid and DiVincenzo won't be in action for Tuesday's clash versus the Denver Nuggets.
Tempers flared between both clubs after Holland committed a defensive foul on Reid, prompting the T-Wolves big man to confront the rookie forward.
Holland pushed DiVincenzo as he was exchanging words with Reid, and the T-Wolves guard immediately retaliated with a shove. The three players became entangled and fell into the front row of the stands.
Stewart and Sasser then joined the scrum and shoved Reid and DiVincenzo.
All five players were assessed technical fouls and ejected from the contest. Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff and T-Wolves assistant Pablo Prigioni were also tossed for getting into their own verbal altercation following the melee.
