Grizzlies' Wells suffers broken wrist after hard fall vs. Hornets

Memphis Grizzlies wing Jaylen Wells sustained a broken right wrist in the second quarter of Tuesday's 124-100 victory over the Charlotte Hornets, his agent told ESPN's Shams Charania.

Wells took a hard fall after he was undercut by Hornets guard KJ Simpson on a dunk attempt.

The Grizzlies rookie remained on the floor for several moments before he was taken off the court on a stretcher.

Wells is awake, alert, and moving his extremities, according to Charania, who added that the first-year player will continue receiving medical care.

Simpson was assessed a flagrant-2 foul and ejected from the game.

"It puts everything into perspective seeing that situation and to see Jaylen there," Grizzlies interim head coach Tuomas Iisalo told reporters postgame, per Richard Walker of The Associated Press. "He's an incredibly tough kid and had a great season."

Wells is among the leading candidates for this season's Rookie of the Year award. The Washington State product has started 73 games and is averaging 10.5 points, 3.4 boards, and 1.7 assists.

Memphis selected Wells with the No. 39 overall pick in last year's draft.
