Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revealed that his wife, Gene, was overcome with emotion when learning Luka Doncic had been traded by the Dallas Mavericks.

Jones shared his wife's reaction to the blockbuster trade at a pre-draft press conference Tuesday, describing Doncic as a "personal friend" of his.

"I'm a fan of the Mavericks - big fan of the Mavericks - and consequently a big fan of Luka," Jones said, via 105.3 The Fan. "The world knows that I've got my hands full thinking about what we think about over here; I look at the Mavericks through a very much entertainment eye.

"I know Luka was a personal friend and watched a lot of games with us, and would hope that he would be able to watch some more games with us as we go along. Know his family pretty well and his support staff pretty well ... Now Gene was All-State, scored 17 straight free throws in the state championship game, and Gene lives and dies with that basketball (team). And just cried when Luka left."

Doncic spent the first six-and-a-half seasons of his NBA career with the Mavs before being dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers in early February. He returned to Dallas for the first time since the trade on April 9, finishing with 45 points to help the Lakers clinch a playoff spot with a 112-97 victory over the Mavs.
